Addiction Recovery in Spain<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Deciding to go abroad for treatment is two decisions at once. The first is that something has to change. The second is a set of practical questions that most websites skip: what happens with work, what to tell people, whether insurance covers any of it, and what happens when you land back home a month later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This page is about the second set. InHarmoni is a private residential clinic in El Para\u00edso, minutes from the beach and a short drive from Marbella, with no more than ten clients at a time and a programme that runs in English. The clinic is licensed in Spain as a healthcare provider.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The objection people raise about treatment abroad, usually to themselves, is that it looks like escape. In practice the opposite is true, for two reasons that have nothing to do with the scenery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dependence is held in place by the environment. The same pub, the same colleagues, the same drive home, the same dealer, the same hour of the evening. Removing yourself from all of it for a month is not avoidance, it is the only reliable way to interrupt a pattern that has learned to survive good intentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And distance makes honesty easier. Something loosens when nobody in the room knows anyone you know.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The assessment.<\/strong> A clinical conversation by phone or video covering substance use, physical health, medication, mental health<\/a> and previous treatment. It decides two things: whether we are the right level of care, and which programme length makes clinical sense. If the answer is that we are not right for you, we say so at this stage rather than after you have paid for a flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Documents.<\/strong> A valid passport and travel insurance. Bring a list of prescribed medication, and the contact<\/a> details of your own doctor if you are willing for us to be in touch with written consent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work.<\/strong> Many clients arrange a signed period of medical leave, and we can support that process with documentation. Nothing goes to an employer without your written consent.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Getting here<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Malaga airport is under an hour from the clinic, with direct flights from most British and Nordic cities. We arrange transfers on arrival and departure so that you are met rather than left to find your own way on the first day, which is usually the worst day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medically supervised withdrawal where it is needed, included in the 28 day programme. Individual therapy, group work, cognitive behavioural therapy, schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, trauma informed work where relevant, family sessions and relapse prevention. Yoga, breathwork, meditation, art therapy, therapeutic horticulture, personal training and nutritional support alongside the clinical work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Private accommodation and all meals are included. Programmes run for 14, 28 or 56 days.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Family sessions are part of the programme where the relationships allow, and relatives can speak to us separately if they need guidance of their own. Recovery rarely holds in isolation from home, and the household usually has habits of its own to unlearn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visits are possible and Malaga is an easy airport to reach, which is worth weighing against destinations further afield.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Going home again<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is the part that decides whether the month was worth it, and it is where treatment abroad is most often criticised. Fairly, in some cases: a clinic that waves you off at the airport with a certificate has done half a job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every 28 day programme includes four months of individual aftercare with a case manager. Before you leave we build a plan covering continued therapy where you live, contact with us, and the specific changes at home without which the environment simply restarts the cycle. Where you want your own doctor involved, we hand over properly, with your written consent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is rehab abroad covered by insurance?<\/strong><\/summary>\n

We do not have agreements with insurers, so treatment is paid privately. Some private policies reimburse part of a residential stay afterwards, and we provide the documentation you need to claim. Ask your insurer what they require before you travel.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

What if I do not speak English well?<\/strong><\/summary>\n

The programme runs in English, and we also have staff who speak Swedish, Spanish, Arabic and Albanian. Therapy in a language you are not comfortable in costs you something real, so raise it at assessment rather than hoping it works out.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

Can I be contacted while I am there?<\/strong><\/summary>\n

Yes. Access to a phone is managed as part of the clinical plan, particularly in the first days, but you are not cut off from your family.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

What happens if I want to leave early?<\/strong><\/summary>\n

You can. This is a residential clinic, not a locked unit. We will ask you to talk it through with your therapist first, because the urge to leave usually arrives on a predictable day and passes.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

Do you treat mental health conditions as well?<\/strong><\/summary>\n

Yes, and generally at the same time. Depression<\/a>, anxiety, burnout, trauma and post traumatic stress sit alongside addiction far more often than either is discussed.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

How soon can I come?<\/strong><\/summary>\n
