Mental Health Programme in Spain
Not everyone who comes to us has an addiction. A large part of our work is with people whose problem is exhaustion, low mood, anxiety that has stopped responding to anything, or the aftermath of something they have never properly dealt with. They arrive having tried the sensible things first, and having discovered that a fortnight in the sun and a different gym did not touch it.
InHarmoni is a private residential clinic in El Paraíso, minutes from the beach and a short drive from Marbella. Ten private rooms, ten clients at most, and a clinical team of psychiatrists, psychologists, trauma therapists and nurses. The programme runs in English, and the clinic is licensed in Spain as a healthcare provider.

Qué tratamos

The larger areas we work with:
- Depresión, mild to moderate
- Burnout and exhaustion, including executive burnout
- Anxiety, mild to moderate
- Trauma and post traumatic stress
- Duelo
- Eating disorders, within the criteria we set out at assessment
- Any of the above alongside alcohol, medication or other substance use
That last line matters more than its length suggests. Alcohol and prescribed medication creep into these conditions quietly, and a programme that treats the mood and ignores the drinking is the most common reason people are back in the same place a year later.
What this is not
We would rather be clear early than at the point of admission.
This is a ten bed residential clinic, not an acute psychiatric unit. We are not the right setting for someone in an acute crisis, for someone who needs involuntary care, or for severe psychosis. If you or someone close to you is in immediate danger, póngase en contacto con your local emergency number or emergency services rather than a clinic abroad.
We assess every enquiry individually and we say plainly when a different level of care is needed. Where that happens we try to point towards somewhere that fits.

How the programme is built

The order is not negotiable, because working on the psychological causes while the body is still in collapse does not hold.
Medical assessment first. Sleep, thyroid function, blood pressure, medication and alcohol use, and a review of what has already been tried. Several physical conditions imitate depression and burnout and need to be ruled out before anyone draws conclusions.
Physical recovery. Sleep, nutrition and a nervous system that stops running at full alert. This is the unglamorous part and it cannot be skipped. Most clients describe the first real sleep in months within the opening week.
Therapy. Daily individual sessions alongside group and creative work. Cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, schema therapy, somatic work, EMDR where trauma is present, family sessions where the relationships allow.
Return planning. Recovery that ends at the airport is not recovery. Before departure we build a realistic plan for going back to work and to family life, including what has to change and what will need continued support. Every 28 day programme includes four months of individual aftercare with a case manager.
A retreat setting, without the retreat vagueness
The setting is genuinely restorative: gardens, a heated pool, a yoga pavilion, meals cooked on site, and the sea a few minutes away. Yoga, breathwork, meditation, tension and trauma releasing exercises, art therapy, therapeutic horticulture, massage, personal training and sleep work all sit inside the programme.
None of it replaces the clinical work. A retreat offers rest, and for mild exhaustion rest may be enough. Once mood, memory, physical health or substance use are affected, rest is necessary and not sufficient. What we offer has the calm of the first and the clinical substance of the second.

Programme lengths
Fourteen days can stabilise a situation and restore sleep. Twenty eight days is the standard, and it is long enough to get through the physical recovery and into meaningful therapeutic work. Fifty six days is the right clinical choice where there is more than one diagnosis, or where several previous attempts have not held.
We recommend a length at assessment rather than letting you pick one from a table.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a diagnosis before I come?
No. Many clients arrive with a description rather than a label, and part of the assessment is working out what is actually going on. If you already have a diagnosis and a treating doctor, bring both.
Can I continue my medication?
Yes, and we review it as part of the medical assessment. Nothing is changed without a doctor involved, and we do not take people off medication as a matter of principle.
Is this residential, or can I attend during the day?
The main programme is residential. There is a monthly outpatient day programme, open to clients who have already completed at least three months of residential treatment with us.
Do you treat anxiety on its own?
Mild to moderate anxiety, yes, most often alongside depression or burnout. Severe anxiety disorders that need specialist inpatient care are outside what we do, and we will say so at assessment.
Will my employer be told?
Not by us. Nothing is shared with an employer or insurer without your written consent. Many clients arrange a signed period of medical leave and we can support that with documentation.
Can family be involved?
Yes, and we encourage it where the relationship allows. Relatives can also speak to us separately if they need guidance of their own.
Start with a conversation, not a booking
Most people wait far too long, usually because they are waiting for permission or for things to become undeniably bad. A first conversation is confidential, costs nothing and carries no obligation, and you will get an honest view of whether this is the right level of care.
