Can Family Members Visit?

Family involvement can be an important part of addiction and geðheilbrigði treatment, but residential centres approach visits differently.

At InHarmoni, visits are considered individually. The current programme information states that visits are limited to special circumstances in order to protect the privacy of all clients.

Why can visits be limited?

Early recovery can be emotionally intense.

For some people, samband with family is supportive. For others, relationships may be closely connected to stress, conflict, enabling behaviour or the circumstances surrounding their substance use.

A good treatment programme considers whether a visit will support the person’s recovery rather than assuming that more contact is always better.

Does InHarmoni involve families in treatment?

Yes.

Family therapy and family support are included within the treatment programme.

InHarmoni also operates a separate Family Support Programme for partners, parents, siblings and adult children affected by addiction. It consists of six structured online group sessions, each lasting 60 minutes.

The programme addresses subjects including understanding addiction, boundaries and enabling, communication, self-care, codependency, relapse and rebuilding relationships.

What if my family cannot travel to Spain?

They can still be involved.

Family support can take place remotely, and treatment planning can incorporate family sessions where clinically appropriate.

For many families, the most useful involvement is not simply visiting the centre. It is understanding what recovery will look like when the client returns home.
