There is no universal answer to how long residential addiction treatment should last.
The appropriate duration depends on the person’s substance use, mental health, physical health, treatment history, goals and progress.
At InHarmoni, the standard residential programme is approximately 28 days, and the centre recommends a minimum of 28 days when the goal is sustainable change. Shorter stabilisation periods and longer programmes can also be arranged according to clinical need.
Why 28 days?
A month provides enough time for more than initial stabilisation.
At InHarmoni, the programme is structured progressively.
The first week focuses on stabilisation and assessment.
The second focuses on understanding and insight.
The third moves towards processing and developing skills.
The fourth focuses on integration and planning for life after treatment.
This progression is important because residential treatment is not simply about getting through detox.
Is two weeks enough?
For some people, a shorter period may be clinically appropriate.
InHarmoni offers shorter stays, and the programme can be tailored to individual circumstances.
However, a shorter stay necessarily provides less time for therapeutic work, behavioural change and preparation for returning home.
Can treatment last longer than 28 days?
Yes.
InHarmoni offers extended programmes, including 56- and 84-day options.
The important question isn’t whether 14, 28 or 90 days is the right answer.
It is whether the individual has received enough treatment, preparation and support to make the next stage of recovery realistic.
