Marbella has a complicated reputation in this field. It is a place people come to for treatment and also a place people come to in order to drink, and there are centres along this coast that are marketed as clinics without being clinically staffed at all. It is worth knowing which one you are looking at, and licensing is the place to start. We are licensed in Spain as a healthcare provider and will give you the registration details on request.
InHarmoni is a private residential clinic in El Paraíso, on the coast between San Pedro de Alcántara and Estepona, minutes from the beach and a short drive from Marbella. Ten clients at most, ten private rooms, and a clinical team of psychiatrists, psychologists, addiction specialists, trauma therapists and nurses.
Where we actually are
El Paraíso sits on the stretch of coast west of Marbella. Puerto Banús and Marbella old town are both a short drive east, Estepona is a short drive west, and Malaga airport is under an hour away with direct flights from most British and Nordic cities. We arrange transfers on arrival and departure.
The location is deliberate. Close enough to the city for family to visit and for arrivals to be easy, far enough out that the clinic is quiet and nobody passes it by accident.
Why the setting does clinical work
Two things matter more here than the view.
The first is distance from cues. Addiction is bound up with particular streets, particular people and a particular routine. Being somewhere else, where none of those cues exist, is what makes the first fortnight survivable.
The second is light and sleep. The coast has upwards of three hundred days of sunshine a year, and sleep and mood are the first two things any programme has to restore. Most clients describe the first real sleep in months within the opening week.

Addiction to alcohol, cocaine and crack, ketamine, prescription painkillers and benzodiazepines. Depression, anxiety, burnout and exhaustion, trauma and post traumatic stress, eating disorders within the criteria we set out at assessment, sexmissbruk and other behavioural addiction, and anger management.
Where addiction and a psykisk hälsa condition are both present, and they usually are, both are treated in the same programme by the same team.
The programme
Assessment by phone or video before you travel, covering substance use, physical health, medication, mental health and previous treatment. It is also where we say honestly whether we are the right level of care.
Medically supervised withdrawal where it is needed, included in the 28 day programme.
Therapy, which is the core. Individual sessions, group work, cognitive behavioural therapy, schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, trauma informed work where relevant, family sessions where the relationships allow, and relapse prevention.
Complementary work alongside it: yoga, breathwork, tension and trauma releasing exercises, meditation, art therapy, therapeutic horticulture, personal training and nutritional support. These support the clinical programme rather than replacing it.
Eftervård for four months with a case manager, included with the 28 day programme.

The clinic works in English. We also have staff who speak Swedish, Spanish, Arabic and Albanian, and the founder is Swedish, which is why a large share of our clients come from the Nordics.

Where exactly is the clinic?

Who oversees the treatment?
Every programme is overseen by qualified medical and psychotherapeutic staff, and you are welcome to ask us directly what qualifications sit behind yours. In this region that is a question worth asking everyone.
How far is Malaga airport?
Under an hour. Transfers in both directions are arranged by us.
Can I go outside during treatment?
Yes, within the structure of the programme and depending on where you are in it. This is a residential clinic rather than a locked unit, and the first days of withdrawal are managed differently from the third week.
Can family visit?
Yes, and family sessions are part of the programme where the relationships allow. Relatives can also speak to us separately if they need guidance of their own.
Do you take clients who live locally?
Yes, though we will talk through whether residential treatment fifteen minutes from your own front door is the right choice for you, or whether the distance is part of what you need.
Do you work with insurers?
We do not have agreements with insurers, so treatment is paid privately. Some private policies reimburse part of a residential stay afterwards, and we provide the documentation you need to claim. Ask your insurer what they require before you travel.
