Choosing a Rehab in Europe
There is no best rehab in Europe. There is the clinic that fits the substance, the diagnosis, the language you think in and the life you have to return to, and that is a different answer for different people. This page sets out the five things that genuinely differ between private clinics in Europe, so that you can judge them yourself rather than by the quality of the photography.

Language
This is the factor people underweight most. Residential treatment is four weeks of difficult psychological work, and doing it in a second language, or through an interpreter, costs you precision at exactly the moment precision matters.
Ask whether therapy itself runs in your language, not whether reception speaks it. Ask whether the therapist who leads your treatment is a native or fluent speaker, and whether group work is in that language too.
Cost, and what is inside it
Private residential treatment in Europe runs from roughly fifteen thousand euros for a fortnight to forty thousand and upwards for a month, and the headline number is the least useful part.
What to compare:
- Whether medical detox is included or billed separately
- Whether aftercare is included, and for how long
- How many clients are in residence, because that determines how much individual therapy you get
- Whether medication, laboratory tests and doctor visits are inside the price
- Whether the quoted figure is a starting price or the actual one
A clinic that publishes its prices is easier to compare than one that quotes on enquiry.
Travel and distance
Two to three hours of flying separates most of northern Europe from the Mediterranean, and the same journey from the Nordics to South Africa or Thailand takes most of a day. That matters twice: on arrival, when you are often unwell, and later, if family visits are part of the plan.
Weigh it against the value of distance. Treatment in your own city is easier to reach and considerably harder to complete.
Regulation and staffing
Requirements for private clinics differ substantially between European countries, and the gap between a clinic and a wellness retreat with a therapist attached is not always visible from a website.
Three questions settle it. Which authority licenses the clinic, and under what registration. Who leads your treatment, and what are they qualified in. Is a doctor on site or on call, and what happens at three in the morning in the first week.
Aftercare, which decides the result
The month is the part everyone compares. The four months afterwards are the part that determines whether it held.
Ask what happens after discharge, whether it is included, whether it involves a named person who knows your case, and how the clinic hands over to services where you actually live. A programme that ends at the airport is a holiday with therapy in it.
Where we fit
InHarmoni is a private residential clinic in El Paraíso, on the Spanish coast between San Pedro de Alcántara and Estepona, minutes from the beach and a short drive from Marbella. Ten clients at most, ten private rooms. The clinic is licensed in Spain as a healthcare provider.
Programmes of 14, 28 and 56 days. Medically supervised detox is included in the 28 day programme, and every 28 day programme includes four months of individual aftercare with a case manager. Therapy runs in English, and we also have staff who speak Swedish, Spanish, Arabic and Albanian.
We treat addiction to alcohol, cocaine, ketamine and prescribed medication, behavioural addiction including sexavhengighet, and we treat depression, anxiety, burnout, trauma and eating disorders. We are not the right clinic for everyone, and we will tell you at assessment when that is the case.

Frequently asked questions
Which country is best for rehab in Europe?
Whichever one lets you have therapy in your own language, get there in a few hours and afford the length of stay you actually need. For British and Nordic clients that is usually southern Europe.
Is treatment in Europe cheaper than in the United Kingdom?
Sometimes, and the comparison is only meaningful once you check what is included. A lower headline price with detox and aftercare billed separately is not cheaper.
Can I use private health insurance abroad?
Sometimes, depending on your policy and country. Ask your insurer what documentation they need before you book anything.
How long should a stay be?
Long enough to get through withdrawal and into therapeutic work, which is why twenty eight days is the common standard. Two weeks can stabilise a crisis but rarely changes the pattern behind it.
Do European clinics treat psykisk helse as well as addiction?
The good ones treat both, because they arrive together. If a clinic treats only the substance, ask what happens to the depression underneath it.
How do I check if a clinic is legitimate?
Ask which authority licenses it and for the registration number, and ask what qualifications sit behind your programme. A clinic that answers plainly is telling you something. So is one that does not. Ours is a Spanish healthcare licence, and the registration details go out on request.
Compare us properly
Put the five questions above to us on a first call. It costs nothing, commits you to nothing, and if a clinic in Spain is not the right answer for you we would rather say so than sell you a month.
